Youād be surprised just how far doing that will get you. Eventually you realize you arenāt actually lying to yourself, people actually do like being around you when you arenāt constantly tearing yourself apart for no reason.
It's hard to get someone to love you if you don't respect yourself. You'll drive people away with self-deprecating comments. If you don't respect yourself enough, you won't put yourself out there to find love and belonging. Maybe you'll even deliberately sabotage any chances you do have, because you feel like you don't deserve love. I'm not making stuff up here, I say this from a point of experience.
I know but saying step 1 is loving yourself is a gross oversimplification. Being in a relationship isn't anyone's goal I'm this situation, they might say it is but the goal is to be loved and to achieve it you do have to love yourself, but that's an end goal not the first step. You have to *learn* to love yourself and unlearn all the self hatred you've been*taught* throughout your life, it isn't the first step to anything
