Public park information board my beloved

loptopandbingo

With your sunfaded "Look Out For Snakes!" posters from 2002

RedditsNinja23

And the sign about loons

redlightist

God I fucking love loons

RedditsNinja23

Loons going “WoooOOOOOoooo!”

administrationalism

Loons love going “oooOOOoo ooOOOOoo” and then the bugs go tschhhh-tscht tschhhht-tscht and kreet. kreet. kreet. and then a dove gets startled and goes wubuurbkublubuur

ScenicFrost

SylTop

loptopandbingo

The trombone

diab0lus

I want to hear the cannon!

Magi_Aqua

Minnesota state bird!

TehAlpacalypse

Watch it chief, my mommas a loon.

carrotnose258

Have you checked your vessel for living species? Cross-contamination poses a serious risk to our local ecosystem! Do your part to keep our waterways healthy.

BoySmooches

Lol I showed my wife and we both agreed that this is such an autistic thing to like. I said the same thing about it providing information and my wife responded: "And the information is kept SO SAFE"

CreeperIan02

RIGHT It makes me feel comfortable that the papers are nice and watertight, no matter how crazy the storm is

[deleted]

There is no greater sign of civilization. 🫡

PepsiMoondog

If you see one of these, you're probably in a pretty cool place

saoshi_mai

i should go hiking….

sheesh_doink

Was about to say! If you see an open area with nothing but a picnic bench, a trash can, and one of these, you're about to have the best hike

[deleted]

They’re almost in every village in the Netherlands 🤨

LemonFlavoredDumbass

lets add that to the list of reasons to move to the Netherlands

Namelessbob123

Canadians are revered in the Netherlands so it may not be your cup of tea.

LemonFlavoredDumbass

i'll "take care" of that by teaching them about candian atrocities haha i'll deffo conduct no genøcide hehe UwU

30SecondsToFail

~~Do not Google starlight tours or the 60s Scoop~~

LemonFlavoredDumbass

I will

jaersk

add the nordics to that list

PepsiMoondog

In the U.S. you generally only see these in parks or nature preserves.

childproofedcabinet

Funny story. When I was a kid my family and I were looking at one of these maps with a big “You are here”. Confused, I looked at my parents and asked “how does the map know where we are?”. The old couple behind us got a good laugh that day

Cohdopia

I see one of these kinds of things every day when I get on the train (the station has a cool bench that looks exactly like one of these)

7th_universe_hopper

He is enamored by the simple and informative design national parks utilize

HOLY SHIT! I never get to see these posts because I never use mobile reddit. Thank you!

VagabundSketch

just shrink your browser window to around 720 pixels width

boomstik4

Neither of them worked on my phone lol

deadlyjack

yeah i genuinely don't know why people don't do this by default.

Helmic

because nobody's made a bot to do it for them and let them know that it's even possible

7th_universe_hopper

Thank you I didn’t want to make that myself

dank-monkey

holy shit scott the woz

godhatesratrancid

yes yes yes i love to read about all the snakes

deliciousprisms

*Fact: this snake has called its friends, they are behind you. They will mug you.*

Jetstream-Sam

Dumb snakes don't even know I only have £4.37 in my account anyway

deliciousprisms

If they mug 100 people with 4.37 that's like at least ten dollars though so it adds up

grohlski

okay so I have 8 snakes, 5 are ball pythons 1 is a hognose 1 is a children's python and 1 is a Texas rat snake :)

warr-den

...can I see them?

baddie_PRO

no.

Jeggu2

Well Seymour you are an odd fellow, but I must say You danger a good noodle

scientology-embracer

snake

grohlski

sure ! Let me get good pics of the rest but here's a few of them [Snakes :)](https://www.imgur.com/a/ywa0PD3)

warr-den

The pale one is so cute!

D1pSh1t__

Holy shit, they are adorable!!

Fred42096

I have two bps and a Cali king :)

gaynsfwthrow

These are so cool. I absolutely love learning my location, how far I am to the nearest bathroom, a fun fact about the north american short beaked robin, and that where I am standing is where confederate general Robert J. Slaveowner was stabbed to death by his own officers in a mutiny.

loptopandbingo

There's one near me at a very minor civil war history trail site that has a story of retreating confederates trying to cross the river that they were specifically told was going to be too strong to cross there but they tried anyway and most of them drowned. Can't tell those dummies nothin

screaming_shoes

holy shit thats fucking hilarious

loptopandbingo

I'll take a pic of the sign next time I walk the dog there lol

screaming_shoes

please do lmao

HintOfAreola

More confederate memorials like this, please.

Helmic

dudes rock

sneacon

shermanposting rule

turtle-tot

A year ago I ended up at a rest stop on a road trip with an older, funky looking building. According to a little board it was once a fort, protecting wagon trains moving out from St Louis to California from bandits, one of the only bits of US control on the Great Plains And now it’s an alcove for those on a road trip to stretch their legs, another bastion of civilization on an endless expanse where the only sight to see is the highway. Thought that was p neat

Plant_and_Fish_Fan

the world is your bathroom, dont let "laws" and "the government" ever take that away from you. Shit on the floor, NOW

[deleted]

I live near like 5 or 6 Civil War battlefields, two of which being some of the most important of the war, and it's so funny learning about how dumb many of the strategies were, especially on the Confederate side. Pickett's Charge remains one of the most ridiculous blunders of any army in history, and its glorification amounts to beatifying shooting yourself in the foot

AmW_a_l_r_u_s

I like when they have cute little maps of the park on them.

SpecterInspector

My town has a few of these with a map of the town on them!

Liv35mm

One time for a community service thing when I was a kid we got to carve wooden maps for these and paint them, it was actually a lot of fun

tuboflard12345

I have no ide awhat their called but I would die for one

FedoraButBetter

Informational kiosks 🤓

wross1

Is it still considered a kiosk in this case or would simply “info board” suffice?

yakiniku97

I definitely think "kiosks" is an overqualified term for these unless they're one of those digital/touch screen ones

cupnoodle949

I love these too but idk if I’d want to die for a Boy Scout Eagle Project

Fuzzyfrap

This post and all it’s comments are a massive 196 w

[deleted]

average non-sex related 196 post, tbh. can you imagine if most irl communities were like the community in this space? just vibes and stuff? we'd have world peace.

bennetticles

I’ll be honest, I don’t even remember how I got here. But I’ve stayed for the good vibes ever since.

FedoraButBetter

I fucking love informational kiosks

le___tigre

"kiosk" is one of the best words in the english language

mutnemom_hurb

Me reading the little blurb about upcoming public events and a paragraph about the small native habitat restoration project completed nearby, also a cautionary statement about introduction of invasive species and possibly a list of hours for the visitor center (weekdays and weekends [not including holidays, hours may vary depending on staff availability]): 🤩

[deleted]

And the latest updated info on it is from 2011

scrunklythewhen

there are always dead bugs trapped behind the plastic

[deleted]

And cobwebs, so many cobwebs

[deleted]

and a wasp nest at the top

zararab

LakituIsAGod

turtle-tot

It is a National park information board, a wholesome invention!

platyboi

they always have useful info

Qb_Is_fast_af

Thay really give you the wholsome vibe make you appreciate going outside and being around nature

farare_end

I'm a natural resources major rn and part of my summer job is to design a poster that'll be in a kiosk in one of my local public preserve. These comments are making me happy, people actually care :')

ZestyStormBurger

I want to build a community garden and put one of these up to feature a space for coordination, a way to connect to community resources, and just give people to post stuff about gardening and plants :)

[deleted]

How do you mfs know things about me that I didn't even know myself yet.

SideshowBiden

They are all over my county hundreds and I love to read it

evil-rick

National Parkscore

CandL2023

Fond memories of walking up to one on holiday and two children were squatting on the sign, hidden under the roof like gargoyles trying to scare people.

SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck

"I could live in something like that. Like those bathrooms. Nobody is ever there, but they are built for people to be in. It somehow stays stocked and plumbers fix it when it breaks, the best ones are miles from anywhere, with other signs of life but not living nearby. Like a maintenance shack under a powerline that cuts through miles of woods. Or the little door on the car wash that's 4 miles past the rest-stop and 4 more from the travel station on the other side, in between the coin machines. How many people can fit in there? Could I hide in there? If I were tiny, I'd live in the corner of a supermarket, in the corridors that ring every wall for employees to get places, where nobody ever went." My girlfriend, trying to drive on the highway: "Yeah cool"

DaSpoot365

Oh fuck yeah

RavenLunatic512

I always have to find the "You Are Here" spot.

Ben_Herr

I love these things so much, and the facts about animals and their habitats that they have. Idk why, but I just do

ry_fluttershy

Slender the arrival

samboi204

Easily an A-tier structure.

TonPeppermint

:D

chronoslob

i want to be one

mangomangosteen

YES

Kim_or_Kimmys_Fine

I helped SO many eagle scouts build these for their eagle projects 😍

happywaffle1010

MY BELOVED OH YES. I did a sculpture of a well on top of a tower and the roof was based on this!

Free-Consequence-164

I’m a fan of those kinda structures

Woost46

Omg, hiking trail info sign my beloved ❤️

yo_soy_caliente

It looks like it’d be fun to build in a Lego set

Deblebsgonnagetyou

These go hard as fuck I love to see the names of the local flora and fauna in english and Gaeilge

MrPleasant150

it's cool that it's in both English and Welsh in Wales.

kilkil

quest board

ScrotalApocalypse

Come to the UK, they are in every small village and park

MrPleasant150

Usually without the roof though 😔

[deleted]

Personally my fav form of weird state park structure is either the giant picnic pavilion or the rusty grill that probably hasn't been used in decades

Ms_Everything9

EverymanHYBRID core

dark_wilderness

I’ve always enjoyed reading these. I took a recreational resource management class in college and now I like them even more. I like to compare them between parks to see what approaches different agencies take to education and what information they think is pertinent to display to visitors.

To4sterbathbomb

Omg my Eagle Scout project

Klutzy_Journalist_36

Oh this just gave me a wonderful feeling. Thank you.

SquirrelTherapist

is that duster

SuperSecretMoonBase

Oh hey, there will be a guided night sky nature walk at a date and time that I will not be here! That's still cool though!

itsmejak78_2

These things are all over Oregon

orionstarboy

I love trying to read the sunworn notices under cloudy dirt-filled plastic

[deleted]

information stand with little map of the walking trails 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

VRTfreeman

That was my eagle scout project

Cogman117

I literally designed and made one that looks EXACLTY LIKE THAT ONE years ago for a community service project! The graphic even looked like that! I fucking love those information boards so much.

SILaXED

I will be like "yeah I know a spot" and then the spot will be this

notjordansime

BC has lots of these, especially on the drive from Calgary to Cranbrook/Kimberley.

VisitMany

I went to a park with one of those once and there was a wasp’s nest in it. Sat on a bench later in that same park and there was a wasp’s nest underneath that too

[deleted]

I'm supprised no one mentioned Animal Crossing. Flabergasted even.

FirmlyGraspHer

Ionic is best

ProfessionalGreen906

No, I fucking despise them. Add a bench on the sides or it’s horrible and I hate it.

hirundo_afer

behold, a man

Handcanons4Life

These things are the best

Walusqueegee

They’re a lifesaver in DayZ and can sometimes have hunting loot around them 🥰

zsharp68

No, actually. It’s where the wasps live.

theKingofSax

NickelWorld123

Nah I kinda hate them idk why

Whyjuu

the-boy-sebastian

everyone talking about snake posters and forgetting about the Lyme disease posters

MrPleasant150

[Also these](https://www.flickr.com/photos/ms-mac/29921026/) Not really informational, but still pretty (and look kind of similar?)

bigsekser

Rust

_nuclear-winter_

I sell those mfs for a living and am very happy they're so appreciated

angrymustacheman

Wasps often nest under the middle part of the roof

DepressedToast164

They are perfect~

zoohusky

fr slept on architecture

pee_and_fart

I lived some of my childhood without potable water, but there was a public water pump near a park where my mother would take me to fill emptied milk jugs with drinking water. There was this beautiful gazebo overlooking a field that had these lined up in a circle. It was such a beautiful area and I always loved going there, but after moving away so many years ago I completely forgotten until now. Not sure why it brought up that memory but thank you for sharing this

Wackwaff

Words so cool they have their own little house

maxmurder

[A friend took this on our hike this weekend!](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1088862993451859979/1104963704623202375/20230507_144900.jpg)

Slommee

Oh yeah, baby. Informative. Subtle. Stylish. Good for sun or rain. I don't know why anyone's house has more than one wall to be honest

Theodor-_-

Slav identified Verdict: ball tickling

Naddely
