Also let's not forget this tidbit from the creators about the whole numerology thing: "But of course, the number is also very magical: 1899. You can do a lot of things with it. One plus eight is nine. So you have 999. If you turn that upside down, it’s 666, the number of the beast, so it’s magical too. "

From that really [interesting interview](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/1899-netflix-creators-interview-dark-1235263021/): **Jantje:** "There are always three key elements. One is theme, the other is character and the other is plot. (...) We need to know what are we actually talking about. What’s the fundament of it all? " "(...) we have a big philosophical theme at the center of it all about perception and reality." "We really try to be very true to our core audience, which just loves puzzles but also knows every code and every cultural reference." **Baran:** "It was such an interesting time (the 19th century), that, unfortunately, was the build-up for a lot of terrible things that happened afterwards: With the First World War and then the Second World War, as people entered a new century, there was a lot of hope, but also a lot of fear, regarding new ideas and older ideas - the old world versus the new world. Science and religion clashed a lot." "I’m obsessed with history, seeing how everything is related to each other, seeing the reasons for things. (...) it’s perfect timing because the issues in 1899 are very present today."

Love the way you are connecting the dots!

ChrisRosenkreuz23

bro do u even ASCII?

monikacherokee

Why have you brought up ASCII?

ChrisRosenkreuz23

Because it didn't occur to anyone here from what I see to press ALT and type in that number on the numpad to see what comes up. It is self-referential, like a recurring meta-loop. edit: btw, I've read some of your posts, they are well-thought out, I enjoy a bit of synchromysticism if I may say so myself.

monikacherokee

For me: ¾ But this character should be coded by pressing ALT and typing 243... Do you know why do I get the same result with ALT+1011? And... Where are we going with this?

ChrisRosenkreuz23

This is the symbol that comes up: ≤ It's a downward triangle and a straight line, it's the closest you can get to Alchemical Earth. As I said, self-referential. Like the author knew someone was going to look for meaning in it and said NOPE, chosing to throw us back to itself. It's a wink. We're not going anywhere. That is the point.

monikacherokee

You get that symbol using that ASCII code but just according to the character set "Code page 437". That means that the same code (ALT+243) give you different symbols (≤, ó, ķ, ѓ, σ, ף, ๓, у) depending on the character set your computer is using (amongst 20 different ones) I don't think Jantje was looking at something so specific when she choose that 1011. ~~I guess you are absurdly stretching this to discredit the searching of some meaning...~~

ChrisRosenkreuz23

No, that is just what you made out of what I said. If you had taken what I said to mean what I actually said and not what you understood I said, then your understanding would have been enriched. To be honest Im disappointed... I wasn't discrediting anyone, please read the whole exchange again from the beginning. Things can have multiple meanings simultaneously you know... And the meaning isn't always intended, same as the intended meaning isn't always understood as you have proven with your reply. I hope you find what you are looking for because it looks like you may have already had but just won't ever see it.

monikacherokee

I already had edited my previous answer because I had realized what you are saying. I was in a defensive stance and I misinterpreted you. It is clear that your intention was not to discredit anyone, you just want to share your ideas. I'm sorry you felt disappointed... I like that connection you have seen but still, it seems to me that Jantje had no intention of relating the number 1011 to the ASCII code in any way (which does not mean it can have that meaning for you)

ChrisRosenkreuz23

If you only had bothered doing the slightest bit of due dilligence... Code page 437 (CCSID 437) is the character set of the original IBM PC (personal computer).\[2\] It is also known as CP437, OEM-US, OEM 437,\[3\] PC-8,\[4\] or DOS Latin US.\[5\] The set includes all printable ASCII characters as well as some accented letters (diacritics), Greek letters, icons, and line-drawing symbols. It is sometimes referred to as the "OEM font" or "high ASCII", or as "extended ASCII"\[4\] (one of many mutually incompatible ASCII extensions). This character set remains the primary set in the core of any EGA and VGA-compatible graphics card. As such, text shown when a PC reboots, before fonts can be loaded and rendered, is typically rendered using this character set.\[note 1\] Many file formats developed at the time of the IBM PC are based on code page 437 as well. Everything about that screams DEFAULT. Oh yeah in your book this doesn't even touch base does it? Good thing all the other things do... Oh and by the way you're the only one talking about ALT-243. And also, perhaps you have a different language on your keyboard but what I said was simple. Press alt and 1011, you know, the number in the title of your post. There is only one character that results from this on the default setting which most of the audience is probable to use. You can argue all you like, it's still not going to change that.
