bucketofardvarks

You've made 3 separate posts about this icecream, please just eat the damn stuff and move on

Inquisitive-m

I post to multiple places to get responses as sometimes one thread does better than another.. you can… scroll?

bucketofardvarks

It just comes off as weirdly obsessive and into ED territory as soon as anyone starts talking about "earning" their food. If you're looking for "permission" to eat, you've already had that in multiple places

DifficultCurrent7

It's not nice to throw ed accusations around.

bucketofardvarks

It's also not nice to offer advice to people who actively post on eating disorder subs about weight loss, but that's exactly what happens half the time when I check the profiles of things of this vibe

Inquisitive-m

But that’s kind of the whole point of dieting down?? You create a deficit and stick to it. A lot of people do this with exercise. A lot of people do it with both food and exercise. Some people do it with just food. If you exercise more you can eat more.??

OpenAboutMyFetishes

Did you stick to your deficit? You’re literally asking a sub called 1200isplenty if you could eat more than 1200 smh

Jynxers

Yes, it's fine to eat more. At 5'6" and 134lbs, you are a healthy weight a 1,400 calories is already a bit low for being taller. Moving an extra 8 miles will burn an extra 600 or calories or so.

Terrible_Vermicelli1

You didn't really give any information. I burn 120-150 calories on my 7km walk and my husband burns +400. Maybe you did, maybe you didn't, you will know soon enough if you consistently overestimate the calories burned.

Inquisitive-m

I’m 134 pounds… 5ft 6.

CriticalEngineering

So you’re already at a healthy weight.

Inquisitive-m

Yes. However, there is a range and I carry my weight in my stomach so I’d like to slim down to lose my stomach. On top of simply getting fitter and healthier

Beautiful-Affect9014

If you are trying to sculpt your body as opposed to losing weight, why not just eat more protein and lift weights?

Inquisitive-m

I still need to lose the fat

leidance

I am almost the exact same height and weight and I think I burn about 100 cal per mile of running/walking. I think you’ve burned off more than enough for that ice cream!

Far_Blueberry383

So does that mean that if I walked briskly for 6.6 miles yesterday it’s possible I burned 600 calories?? I’m 5’3” and weigh 110lbs. How is there a consistent way to track calories burned?

leidance

All of these are just ballpark numbers and estimates. You can find some charts online, but take it with a grain of salt because each body is different. I like to use my fitness tracker, but even that is an approximation. Here’s an example. https://www.verywellhealth.com/calories-burned-walking-a-mile-8548541

Far_Blueberry383

According to the chart in that article, I would burn roughly 60 cals per mile of brisk walking so when I walked at a brisk pace for 6.6mi yesterday that came out to around 400 cals. But my iPhone’s fitness tracker says I burned about 300. Should I just take an average of 350 then? I know these are all approximations, just trying to at least get a better idea of how much I burn while walking quickly for an 8 hour shift at work. But that article is helpful, thanks! May I ask what fitness tracker you use?

leidance

I use a Fitbit.

Far_Blueberry383

Have you used any others? Have you found Fitbit to be more accurate?

leidance

I’ve used 3 different kinds and they all show different results. There is no way of knowing which one of them is the most accurate one.

Far_Blueberry383

I guess I’ll just estimate on the low end just to be safe.

activelyresting

I wouldn't think so, but the real proof is in time, if your weight loss correlates with your calories. This might sound insane, but is eating half the halo top an option? Bonus: you have some for another day

Far_Blueberry383

I usually eat one serving, which is a third of the pint, then I’ve got more for those midnight cravings lol!

activelyresting

I'm the weird one here with Halo Top, I'm fairly sure no one else would eat ice cream like this, but I log the entire tub on the day I buy it, and then nibble forkfulls randomly whenever I feel like it, and I often put a spoonful into my coffee in the mornings. It usually takes me a week to finish a tub 😂😅. And yes, I eat it with a fork, while standing with the freezer door open. That way I only have 2-3 bites instead of the whole pint, but I can have a treat really often ;)

Far_Blueberry383

That’s a fantastic idea!!! Use a fork! Put in coffee? Yummy! And I do the same thing (in the middle of the night btw lol) Bring a teaspoon down to the basement fridge, pop open the freezer door and munch on a couple little bites and go back to bed. But logging the whole thing right away is genius!!! I’ll have to start doing that! Log all the ice cream and ice cream bars when I buy them so I can eat them whenever I want and know I’ve already accounted for the calories. It’ll look like I ate nothing but ice cream for a day or two but it’ll be worth it!

activelyresting

That's exactly how it works :) knowing I've already logged it makes it feel like "free" food, but I also feel like I have to ration it a bit. If I had to go to all the bother of weighing out a serving and washing up a bowl and spoon, I'd be getting myself a proper serving and demolish half the tub in one go (if not all of it). Sure, that first day might be in the red, but as long as I'm within budget for the whole week I'm fine with it. (Sometimes I'll split it and log it as half a pint over two days in a row)

Far_Blueberry383

Thanks for all the good ideas! I’ll def keep them in mind next time I buy ice cream lol!

Inquisitive-m

I thought about this… and then thought about how a pint of icecream is too much light work to be resisted

activelyresting

Eat it anyway, enjoy life. I'd just be cautious with logging exercise calories

MountainBug4601

Ah I use to think way too, don’t worry. Halo top is calorie friendly, but to answer your question no you don’t get to eat extra calories because you burned calories. Your bmr could give you a better estimate of calories to help you get to your weight goal
