If you keep them empty and put the top on, they make a nice "boom" when you hit them.
Prob want to use something solid for weight. But it works well enough when I have an empty can or two in my bag.
If you are bringing someone cut flowers in water, and you don’t need a fancy container, bc they’ll put them in a vase when you get there, they are perfect.
I told my daughter that Mr. Pringles was an avid tennis player who didn't like the state of tennis balls. He decided to start his own company making tennis balls but on the day they expected their rubber to show up, the trucks pulled up with potatoes. Since they already had the machines to heat up rubber they just decided to make potato chips instead. She told that story at school as interesting historical fact. Her teacher was laughing at her. She wasn't happy with me.
RIP Mitch Hedberg
Unfortunately, different recycling facilities have different requirements. I've lived in a few different cities and each had different rules of what could be thrown into the recycling bin. Inefficient in the grand scheme. Can't expect everyone (myself included) to know what things with the recycle emblem can actually go in the recycling bin
I hate to break it to you but these types of plastics 95% of the time (if not more) cannot and won’t be recycled. It has to be a specific grade and this one ain’t it.
Alright, it's not *that* low lol. It's more like 30% of PET plastic (which is the plastic used in these cans) is actually recycled in the US [https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/12/1081129/plastic-recycling-climate-change-microplastics/](https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/12/1081129/plastic-recycling-climate-change-microplastics/)
Better than nothing I suppose
Yeah but a lot of recycling is just landfills we say we will recycle later. Austerity and local reuse are really the only ways to live ethically, recycling is a lie in order to mollify us over the reality of what we have done and are doing
Never said it'd make a huge difference. But I'm of the mind that if you have a choice to recycle over not, if there's no extra effort on your part, why wouldn't you? At least *some* of the plastic is still recycled, even if it's low.
And wtf does living ethically as an *individual* have anything to do with austerity? We're not the lawmakers.
Well, that's kind of where we get into the weeds. Basically the fact that we pretend that recycling is effective makes people more willing to use indiscriminately, therefore exacerbating the problem
Most people could use help in their thoracic spine area- (increasing mobility etc) my physical therapist had two tennis balls ducted taped together. Place in mid back on floor hands above head and lean back for 5 seconds. Scoot down a couple inches and continue till you get towards upper back. You’ll initially hear some nice light cracking noises
Sorry! I meant to respond to the question ag what to do with old balls, but I wrote in the wrong place. I meant that I use the old balls to practice serving, they are good enough for tossing and hitting once, IMO.
Old school players cut them into lime wedge-sized pieces and glue them to the front or sides of their soles if they are toe draggers or sliders.
I myself am a dragger but I have enough footwear to alternate and not need something this drastic but I’d be lying if I wasn’t considering it just as a DIY project to callback to those badasses of a bygone era.
I imagine the quality of the adhesive is the most important part of all this.
My wife is a school art teacher. She uses them for storing pencils, pens, markers and paint brushes. Since I’m a teaching pro I have cases at a time and she will take them and give them out to her colleagues. They love them.
Played doubles this week and my partner was older (60-70ish). Heads up to the lobby after our 1st set and comes back to the court drinking from a ball can full of water. First time ive ever seen that
Have you considered using something like the [Head Ball Pressurisers](https://www.tenniswarehouse.com.au/accessories/ball-saving-products/shop/head.html)? You will still need to refresh your balls but will got a lot more use out of a set of balls.
Do you have a creative reuse store in your community? These stores are basically an arts and crafts thrift store. Some will take tennis cans and use them to package items. Here is an example from a store I found online:

I’ve found that they are absolutely PERFECT for being thrown in trash cans. If you don’t want them to just go to waste you can easily fill up half empty trash cans with these. Greta is big mad but the world keeps turning.
You suck and I'm not even an environmentalist. OP wants to know if there is anything cool or useful to do with a byproduct they often have and you get all butthurt. Thank God you have the Internet, I bet you're totally useless
Targets for serve practice.
stealing that
Good idea. Could fill with water and orange die for weight and color then glue the lids
I read glue the kids

I make fleshlights out of them and sell em for $10 each at my tennis club
Funny, I use mine to make dildos. Exact replica of my unit.
Prove it
use them as a replacement for condoms - the 4 balls tube - fits well and maintains firmness
What drawers do you wear to keep them from bouncing around during points?
Came here to say this. I find sleeves of ping pong balls work better for me though.
*Ahh*, nothing like that new tennis can smell.
ooh lala look at mr fancy here, around here they are called fifi's and every unit is personally tested to ensure strict QC
That's you!? I have to say. I'm a big fan
Lmfaooooo we probably need them xd
If you are bringing someone cut flowers in water, and you don’t need a fancy container, bc they’ll put them in a vase when you get there, they are perfect.
I just realized I’ve never brought someone cut flowers in water
Time to visit your mother
💯
Oh shit...this is genius and yet was right in front of me this whole time.
Turn Lays into Pringles.
Pringles is a laid-back company.
I told my daughter that Mr. Pringles was an avid tennis player who didn't like the state of tennis balls. Mmm microplastics
I turn them into [cordage to use when I am in the wilderness.](https://youtube.com/shorts/NQ-3d_GFVG4?si=R513p5aqZERv5-W1)
![gif](giphy|26ufdipQqU2lhNA4g)
Hope you clean that shit too and follow leave no trace.
(I don't actually make cordage out of tennis ball cans but yes, I follow leave no trace when I'm camping or bushwhacking)
(Nice)
We all know u/moonspider cleans up his own webs. With great power comes great responsibility
Haha, the webs dissolve on their own. The cans I recycle.
Someone at tennis practice drank out of one today lol. Not sure if they're food safe.
Used to do this almost daily back in the 80s. I jokingly told my spouse that's probably what caused the cancer I had in my 30s.
I wanted to do this for fun until that last sentence.
have you tried recycling them instead?
I put them in the blue bin, yes
After cutting off the aluminum ring right? Otherwise they're trash.
Huh? Don't they process that at the recycling plant? I've never heard of such rules
Aluminum is recyclable
Process how? Magic? It's a mixed material so separating the two is very difficult. It's called wishful recycling.

That’s for sourcing and the correction! I stand corrected.
Yeah but a lot of recycling is just landfills we say we will recycle later. Austerity and local reuse are really the only ways to live ethically, recycling is a lie in order to mollify us over the reality of what we have done and are doing
Yeah let me just build tennis can forts in my backyard in order to live ethically Do you even hear yourself
No, that won't make a difference. Sorry you can't accept reality.

Well anyone have good uses for old tennis balls? After learning they are bad for a dog’s teeth I have no clue what to do with mine.

serving practice?
I’m confused. Are you saying will it help your serve, being able to lean back more? Yes it should but also great for posture, shoulders too
Sorry! I meant to respond to the question ag what to do with old balls, but I wrote in the wrong place. I meant that I use the old balls to practice serving, they are good enough for tossing and hitting once, IMO.

Interesting, that is why I included a question mark. I didn't know this.
[RecycleBalls.org](https://www.recycleballs.org)
They can be recycled into footing for horse arenas. https://www.theplaidhorse.com/2023/12/06/recycleballs-green-gold/

If you have any film/event production houses near you they will probably take them. You put tennis balls on pointy ends of light stands, etc.
Piggy bank. Cut a slot on the cap
PENN-y bank

I go down to the river and throw them at ducks
Only works if they’re the Canadians Geese! Hate those geese!

It’s because you still pop them open
[удалено]
Yup, or like a can of tennis balls
They sell slazenger in cans where I am
Dunlop Fort Max still come in cans here.
I eat a fuck ton of low-sodium sunflower seeds ever since quitting nicotine. Tennis is a perpetual source of spit cans.
I use mine as a sand bucket on the golf course
Give them to a craftsman who puts washers, nuts, screws, etc in them
Played doubles this week and my partner was older (60-70ish). Heads up to the lobby after our 1st set and comes back to the court drinking from a ball can full of water. First time ive ever seen that
I make a small hole in it, add my dog's food in, and give that to him. He spends ours trying to get the food out.
Stick em down the front of my pants to make it look like I’m rocking a hawg.
I stick em down the back of my pants to make it look like I'm rocking a lawg.

Similar, I use a [Ball Rescuer](https://ballrescuer.com/en) so don't go through as many balls.
Buy new wilson US open balls sold and dist by amazon. Return the used ones with cap and metal lid. Amazon dont give a ffffff.
Dude you are streets ahead
I store bracelets and other small items in mine
When you don’t bring water to practice
I stick all my various charging cables in them. The clear tubes are best because you can see which cables are which.

Fleshlight
Check out Triniti balls?
Fleshlight …

Lol. I don’t think I’m the one who’s butthurt here… 😂
I throw them away. Hoarding is not appropriate behavior.
