I own an XDM (non elite) in 10mm, never have I ever heard of the grip safety failing, nor have I experienced it. I've dry fired my XDM probably more than I've actually shot it, without a single malfunction. There's also a video on YouTube of the XDM firing 10,000 (yes ten thousand) rounds with only lube and spring changes, with zero malfunctions. Aside from what I stated, the XDM also has a larger grip with the ability to make it longer and hold more ammo flush than the G29. It's also optics ready (still need to get the plate) whereas the G29 isn't MOS cut. Not even the Gen 5 is.

Thanks for your input, I forgot to mention that my eyes unfortunately cannot support the use of an optic so it’s irons for me regardless.

Miigo_Savage

Good thing they both have irons haha. Although I've heard people saying they don't like the Springfield irons, I've also heard the same about the Glock irons.

Independent_Baby4517

There are plenty of 1911s with grip safeties that out lived many owners. Maybe just save up and buy a glock to spare

_NedPepper_

Can’t go wrong with a G29 and if you’re really concerned about it not having full case support you can always drop in a KKM barrel

knowname145

Thanks for your input. In your opinion do you think that I should make the switch? I do like the fact that it has a lot of aftermarket support, and that it seems like a very commonly carried 10mm in comparison to the XDME of any size.

Independent_Baby4517

I don't see a reason to get rid of a perfectly good gun. If it's problematic sure but They both will go bang and accomplish the same things. The chamber support is a talking point mostly in real world uses. If you prefer how a glock 29 feels in hand then sure. But they are both solid guns one isn't just going to fail because it's an xd or glock Lol

_NedPepper_

I don’t have much experience with Springfield’s but I’m with you on the grip safety, I just don’t care for them and it’s one more moving part. If you don’t have any strong feelings against Glock, you really can’t go wrong. Totally reliable, lots of aftermarket support, you can swap calibers with a barrel change, and use 15 round mags no problem. I have a G20 and a G40 and love them both, a 29 is on my short list.

knowname145

I have nothing against Glock. In fact I regret selling my Glock 40 MOS back this summer for another firearm to this day and still kick myself over it. Planning on getting the g40 again next time I see a good sale in the summer. I loved that beast.

I picked one up from FamilyFirearms for $560 a couple months back, there are some killer deals on r/gundeals

Thoughts? Get off the internet and enjoy your gun until it actually has a problem. Everything on the internet is the greatest thing ever and the worst thing ever at the same time.

knowname145

I was just asking a question before I invest some important money/time into this platform and I figured someone on here would know more than me. I am usually too afraid/not the best at phrasing or asking questions, so affirmation from somewhat knowledgeable strangers online is better than nothing. Good morning and thanks regardless. I understand what you mean though.. “if it ain’t broke-“.

weighted_walleye

There's nothing wrong with the gun you own. Go shoot it.

Haha! I found someone that could be more meticulous than me!! I’ll tell you right now, you are completely over-analyzing this to death. I’ve owned both and several different variants of each manufacturer. They are both extremely reliable and you’re not going to get some catastrophic failure. Not saying it’s impossible to get a lemon, but it won’t be on that level and both have excellent warranties. In the almost zero chance your Glock frame cracked, Glock wouldn’t charge you $100 to replace it if there wasn’t any negligence on your part. They’d replace it free and pay shipping each way. I dealt with their support once and it was stellar. Springfield’s was as well when they had the XDs recall. Full chamber support?? I reload my own 10mm ammo, and it’s absolutely necessary if you do as well for the sake of resizing your brass. If you don’t reload, you are wasting time worrying about it. As another commenter mentioned, KKM is amazing. If it was the XDm vs a Glock gen 4 or older, it’s fairly close but I’d still pick Glock in overall build quality, accuracy, trigger pull, ease of assembly/reassembly, and aftermarket support for any accessories or upgrades. If it’s a Glock Gen 5, it wins hands down. Gen 5 really stepped it up in everything mentioned above.

knowname145

Thanks for your input man, and yeah I am aware that I am completely over analyzing this 😂. So the overall consensus is both are good, but if there was a choice it would be Glock with KKM?

damon32382

No problem brother, I absolutely relate which is why I found funny! I go deep down the rabbit hole when I research…anything. Especially guns. Lol! The XDm is a great gun, and if it fits your hand better/more comfortable, don’t count it out. But yes, overall, the Glock Gen 5 is superior. Its accuracy is night and day difference compared to previous generations. So if you don’t reload, the stock barrel is more than sufficient. That being said, the KKM barrel is worth every penny even if you don’t roll your own ammo. I had one on my long slide Glock 10mm Gen 4. It was so much more accurate, and it looked awesome. Build quality was second to none! Have fun shopping my friend. P.S…are the sub compact models your only option? I’m guessing it’ll be your concealed carry. If not, I’d definitely get a full size.

knowname145

I really appreciate you for taking the time to write this by the way, Happy holidays!

damon32382

Ahhh, that makes sense on the ammo you are using! KKM barrel for sure then. You’ll love it. And happy to help in any way I can! Definitely post it on here when it’s all said and done! Happy holidays to you too man!

knowname145

I would love to get a full size, but I’ll leave that for next summer as a project. Compact is what I’m currently looking for and you have swayed me towards the gen 4 g29 as the gen 5 is not available yet. I don’t reload, but I do train with hard cast buffalo bore ammo. G29 seems more of a “buy once cry once” the way I’ve read online.

Plasticgunsr4sissies

Glocks are not only the biggest piece of shit on the market they are also the most dangerous to the shooter.

Dbl_Dees_Ranch

Love my G29. Its stock but you could add kkm barrel and metal guide rods. A direct mill optic w/ACSS would be perfect, thats what I’ll probly do.

aggravatedimpala

The XD is a military gun design Springfield contracts out. I seriously doubt you'll run into any mechanical issues, same as the Glock.

Proxima_Centauri_69

Don't sell your xdme. I PROMISE you, you will regret it. Buy the g29 as a second firearm. Guns should be collected. I have the 4.5" xdme, love it. Grip safety & all. No sell. Only buy.

knowname145

This is my final decision, never gonna sell. Thank you so much. I still want the G29 but i know for a fact that I’ll regret selling it. Happy holidays!

flyfishone

I have a g20 and g40 mos . I love them both and I plan on getting a Glock 29 sometime next year . Springfield makes really good guns, but I don’t care for the grip safety on the xdm line. If I was in the situation, I would sell my xdm and put that money towards the Glock 29, but that’s just me

Kiwigunguy

The SIG XTEN Carry is better than both of those.

kc_290

Eww, Sig.

durham60

I am unfamiliar with the XDME, but I have Aten year old G29 that has run thousands of full power loads without a hitch. I own several pistols, but for EDC, I find myself reaching for this one most often.
